Huntsville Transit cancels buses due to heavy snowfall

Huntsville residents may need to plan for alternative transportation, as local transit buses are not running until further notice.

Huntsville Transit Services has decided to cancel buses as heavy snowfall blankets the town.

“It’s an extreme weather condition,” says Trish Bennett, area supervisor for Campbell Bus Lines, which provides transit services for the town.

Environment Canada issued a snow squall warning for the area. It says we can see up to 50 cm of snow over the next 24 hours. The snowstorm is expected to continue into Thursday evening.

Bennett called the town recommending cancelling buses until further notice. She says Campbell typically cancels service due to inclement weather conditions.

“Usually about once a year we do cancel it depending on the weather,” says Bennett.

The town states Campbell Bus Lines will continue to monitor road and weather conditions and will restart transit routes if conditions improve.

“We continue to watch the radar to see where the storm is going to go,” says Benett. “If the weather improves, the bus will be back on the road. That’s why I say until further notice.”
