Hospice Muskoka has been handed a $20,000 cheque by the Rotary Club of Bracebridge.
“Hospice Muskoka has become an integral part of healthcare in South Muskoka with its services being particularly critical when compassion and emotional care are most needed,” said Don Smith, President of the Rotary Club.
Hospice, which runs the palliative care home Andy’s House in Port Carling, has been speaking to municipal councils about the organization’s lack of funding. They spoke to Bracebridge councillors on Dec. 5 asking them to back a letter being sent to Premier Doug Ford.
In a letter to council, Donna Kearney, Executive Director of Hospice, pointed out donations in 2023 are down $311,000 compared to this time last year and they risk not being able to meet the organization’s annual $1.2 million budget.
“Rotary’s motto of ‘Service Above Self’ speaks to the importance of volunteering and using our talents to assist others,” said Smith.
