Board of Directors for area tourism agency appoints CEO

James Murphy has been appointed as the CEO of Explorers’ Edge.

He takes on the newly-established role effective immediately. The new role, according to officials, will “strengthen the regional destination development organization.”

“James has served both the board and the regional industry faithfully and exceptionally since he joined RTO12 in 2011,” said Hilary Chambers, Chair of the Explorers’ Edge Board of Directors. “And through his leadership, this organization has developed into a benchmark destination development organization in Canada, with strategies and programs second to none.”

RTO12, also known as Explorers’ Edge, is a regional tourism agency for Algonquin Park, Almaguin Highlands, Loring-Restoule, west Parry Sound District, Muskoka, and South Algonquin. It’s funded by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport.

Murphy’s new position will oversee the administrative, business development, and operational requirements of the organization. He will also be responsible for introducing and building “significant revenue generation programs” like public and private sector investment.
