Gravenhurst Fire Department preparing for annual toy drive

The 7th annual Gravenhurst Fire Department Toy Drive is being held on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 26 in support of the Salvation Army in Gravenhurst.

Kevin McKelvey, Fire Prevention Officer, says the age categories that need the most love are newborn to two years old and children between the ages of 10 and 13 years.

On Nov. 19, volunteers will be stationed in front of the Gravenhurst Canadian Tire from 10 AM until 2 PM while on Nov. 26 the fire department will be collecting toys during the Gravenhurst Santa Claus Parade.

In both cases, McKelvey says the department will have a large trailer that he hopes they can stuff full of toys.

Toys will also be accepted from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday, at the fire department’s main station at 190 Harvie St. The last day a toy can be dropped off will be Dec. 9.

“We’re just thankful for anything that’s brought in,” he says.

McKelvey adds that there is always a good response from the community for the toy drive. He points out that the community is always happy to donate and businesses, like Canadian Tire, are happy to support in anyway they can.

Importantly, McKelvey says the toys donated will be distributed to families in Gravenhurst.

“Please consider a donation if you’re able to help those less fortunate in our community,” he says.
