The Fire Chief for the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department says his firefighters have battled “four or five” wildfires in the past few days.
It has prompted him to issue a daytime burn ban for Huntsville and Lake of Bays. Fire Chief Gary Monahan says the weather that the area is seeing right now is like an “extended summer.”
The daytime ban means small fires are allowed after 6 PM but have to be fully extinguished by 8 AM.
He says the warm weather combined with the high winds is problematic when dealing with forest fires.
“We’re supposed to get a lot of rain this weekend,” explains Monahan. If the forecast proves to be correct, he expects the daytime burn ban will be lifted by Friday morning.
