The Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit has declared a widespread flu activity and Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is stepping up to protect their patients. Chief Quality and Nursing Executive Karen Fleming says their goal is to make sure the flu doesn’t spread from patient to patient at the two hospitals.

If you plan on visiting loved ones at the hospital, Fleming says there are many things you can do to help keep the flu at bay.

She also suggests getting the flu vaccine if you haven’t already. Meantime, MAHC is taking extra precautions to protect staff and patients from the flu. Sylvia says if there are residents wanting to visit loved ones at their hospitals, but have flu-like symptoms, it’s best to stay home until you are well. Also staff, doctors and or volunteers who have not been vaccinated will have to wear a mask at all times to prevent an outbreak.
