Huntsville OPP reminds to keep student safety in mind

Huntsville OPP is reminding drivers to be mindful around schools and school buses.

Constable Jeff Handsor with the detachment says Brunel Road near Riverside Public School has been made a “roadway of concern” because of driver behaviour.

“Unfortunately, that’s a roadway that has been brought to our attention, but it does occur on other roadways in Huntsville,” says Handsor. “People not being mindful of their speed going through school zones, not complying with the rules of the road and stopping for buses.”

Handsor advises giving yourself a bit of extra time for travel at the start or end of the school day, and to keep child safety and well-being front-of-mind.

“It’s understandable that people are in a hurry that time of day in the morning or afternoon,” says Handsor. “But it only takes a fraction of a second, before something can happen that you can’t take back.”

Officials remind that the Huntsville detachment is still enforcing traffic around schools, and that fines for speeding in school zones are steeper.
