One man dead, two rescued after canoe capsizes in Algonquin Park

A 32-year-old man has died after the canoe he and two others were in capsized in Algonquin Park.

Killaloe OPP responded to the call around 4:20 PM on Saturday at Opeongo Lake in the park.

Two of the three males were safely taken to shore, but Xing Lin of Toronto was pulled to shore unconscious a short time after the other two. Police report cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts were done by witnesses and conversation officers. Despite that, he was later pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

“The deceased was part of a larger group who had planned to paddle across Opeongo Lake and camp for the night,” Killaloe OPP report. They say the deceased was wearing a life jacket.

The incident has been deemed non-suspicious by police.
