The Huntsville OPP wants you to double check before heading out over water on your snowmobile. Constable Lynda Cranney says thin ice is a problem. She says we generally have thicker ice this time of year.
Cranney says the man was able to get himself to shore uninjured, but this is a good reminder to check the conditions of the ice before venturing out. Cranney says ice conditions vary throughout Muskoka.
It’s important for snowmobilers to be sure the ice is safe. Cranney says you can do that by going to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) website.
Cranney says the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs should also have updates on trail conditions. Snowmobile season hasn’t officially opened yet. However, the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs will have trail condition updates online.
