Four Bracebridge 150 legacy projects got the Destination Development Award from the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC).
Presented at the EDAC Conference in Moncton, New Brunswick, the award recognizes projects that enhance community infrastructure, boost tourism appeal and support long-term destination development.
The projects recognized included the Bracebridge 150 Forest, Memorial Park Bandshell, Storybook Trail at Woodchester and Heritage Walking Trail.
According to Town of Bracebridge officials, the Bracebridge 150 Forest got recognized for the creation of a new municipal parkland featuring 150 trees and expanded recreational opportunities.
Staff said the Memorial Park Bandshell received recognition for the replacement of the aging bandshell with a modern gathering space for concerts, festivals, community celebrations and cultural programming.
Officials said the Storybook Trail at Woodchester was recognized for its original storytelling, illustrations and public art, creating an engaging, family-friendly attraction.
The Town said the Heritage Walking Trail was recognized for its renewed interpretive signage along the downtown waterfront, encouraging residents and visitors to explore Bracebridge’s history and heritage.
Staff said the award recognized the Town’s efforts to make its 150th anniversary more than just a year of one-time events. Instead, the Town used the milestone as an opportunity to create permanent assets that enhance the visitor experience while providing lasting benefits for residents.
Officials said the projects were developed and delivered through collaboration between the Town, the Downtown Bracebridge Business Improvement Area, the Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce, tourism organizations, local businesses, artists, contractors, sponsors, service clubs and volunteers.
