Construction continues on the King William Street reconstruction project in downtown Huntsville, with crews preparing for the next phase of infrastructure upgrades.
Throughout this week (July 13 to 17), town officials said crews will continue replacing sanitary sewer pipes using trenchless construction methods, a technique that minimizes excavation and helps reduce disruption to the street.
As part of the work, water service will be temporarily interrupted while the existing watermain is isolated from the distribution network. To lessen the impact on local businesses, the interruptions are taking place overnight from July 12 through July 16. Officials say the contractor has been working closely with affected businesses to coordinate the work and provide advance notice.
Last week, crews completed the setup and testing of a temporary sanitary sewer bypass system to maintain sewer service during construction. They also excavated and installed a new sanitary maintenance hole at the north end of the project.
Officials said businesses within the construction zone remain open and accessible to customers throughout the project. One lane of traffic remains open in each direction, but motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time when travelling through the area.
Drivers are also being reminded to obey all posted traffic signs and avoid blocking intersections to help maintain safe traffic flow through the construction zone.
