King William reconstruction project advances in Huntsville

Work continues on the King William reconstruction project in downtown Huntsville, with crews preparing for the next phase of infrastructure upgrades.

Throughout this week (June 22 to 26), officials said crews will test a temporary water system and begin transferring water services to it, as well as prepare for upcoming underground pipe replacement work by digging access pits and locating underground utilities along the corridor.

Last week, construction crews completed excavation, subgrade and compaction work, while continuing efforts to identify underground services. A temporary water pipe was installed along part of King William Street to help maintain water service during construction. Sections of curb, asphalt, sidewalk, and landscaping were removed to make way for underground work, and crews began rebuilding the road base on the northbound side of the street. Temporary traffic signals were also installed at the Rogers Cove Drive intersection.

The Town says businesses within the construction zone remain open and accessible to customers. One lane of traffic remains available in each direction, although motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time.

Officials are also advising that temporary water service interruptions are expected in the coming weeks. Advance notice will be provided before any planned disruptions.
