District of Muskoka to add a new ambulance in Lake of Bays

The District of Muskoka will add a new ambulance in the Township of Lake of Bays in July.

District officials said the new ambulance, which will operate 12 hours per day, will help increase emergency response capacity in east Muskoka during peak periods.

According to the district, the addition of a new ambulance is part of its efforts to expand its reach and operations across Muskoka.

Officials said that since 2022, Muskoka has seen more than 22,000 visits by community paramedics. Since then, new overnight shifts have been added in Gravenhurst, strengthening 24/7 coverage and improving overnight emergency response.

During the same period, a new Muskoka Lakes ambulance station, built in February 2025, has reduced response distances and enhanced coverage across west Muskoka.

Additionally, the district said response times in Georgian Bay Township have improved. Local response coverage in the South Georgian Bay area increased by 70 per cent in 2025 compared to 2024, following the redeployment of an ambulance to Port Severn.

Officials also said they have expanded the Community Paramedicine Program, helping more residents receive care at home while reducing pressure on hospitals and long-term care while improving patient outcomes.
