Ministry of Natural Resources issues flood watch for Severn River

The Ministry of Natural Resources issued a flood warning and watch for the Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound District on May 13.

According to officials, a flood warning is in effect for the French River and Pickerel River, and a flood watch is in effect for the Severn River, including Sparrow Lake, until May 22.

Forecasts suggest that the District of Parry Sound, the District of Muskoka, and the County of Haliburton could receive up to 20 mm of rainfall in the next seven days.

Officials said residents and visitors should anticipate lake and river water levels to continue to decrease in many areas, with some locations beginning to stabilize.

Lower-lying portions of known flood-prone areas may be impacted to varying degrees as runoff enters local watercourses.

Residents are urged to exercise caution near fast-moving rivers and streams and maintain close supervision of children and pets.
