UPDATED: Seasonal flooding leaves multiple road closures in Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes

Seasonal flooding and rainfall left multiple road closures in Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes.

In Bracebridge, town officials recently opened Black River Road, Campbell’s Road and Vankoughnet Road. However, River Road from Taylor Road to the Ann Street/Wilson’s Falls Road intersection and Thompson Road from Highway 118 to the end of the road remain closed.

Township of Muskoka Lakes officials said River Street is closed from Muskoka Road 169 to 50 metres west of Mill Street, and officials said only local and pedestrian traffic is currently permitted. Officials said South Monck Drive from Crawford Road to Muskoka Road 47 remains closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Residents and visitors are urged to avoid non-essential travel in affected areas and to monitor conditions closely, as heavy rainfall and runoff may create hazardous driving conditions, including pooling water, reduced visibility, erosion, and sudden road damage.

Officials said the road closures are in effect until further notice.

Additionally, the Town of Bracebridge is advising drivers to use caution when traveling along Germania Road, Peterson Road, Purbrook Road, and Reay Road. Water is over sections of those roads, but they are all passable.

Officials said public works crews continue to monitor changing weather conditions. Updates will be provided when available.
