Gas leak closes K.P. Manson Public School in Severn Bridge

A gas leak led to the closure of K.P. Manson Public School on Feb. 23 morning, prompting an emergency response and the relocation of students and staff.

School officials said the local fire department was called to the school to investigate the reported leak at around 8 a.m. As a precaution, staff and students who arrived at the building were redirected to the Severn Bridge Woman’s Institute. The relocation included students who had arrived by bus.

Parents and guardians were notified of the situation through SchoolMessenger.

By 1:30 p.m., the local fire department had completed its investigation. The Trillium Lakelands District School Board said qualified staff from its Facility Services department identified a broken pipe on the roof as the source of the leak and began repairs.

Due to the time required to complete the work, the school remained closed to students and staff for the rest of the day.

By late afternoon, the school board said the gas repair has been completed and K.P. Manson Public School will reopen Feb. 24.
