The Town of Huntsville unanimously approved the construction of 110 new housing units at 939 Highway 60 as part of the Grandview Village Development.
During a Jan. 14 planning meeting, Richard Clark, Planning Manager, along with a Grandview Village representative, presented a revised report for the development.
“[With this development we will be] creating new housing opportunities in these appropriately scaled townhouse blocks that I think are going to be ideal for families, empty nesters, and folks looking to downsize,” said Clark.
The request for approval follows a Sept. 24, 2025, public meeting that led to several changes to the project’s original design.
Clark said the proposed development will be serviced by Grandview Drive, Highway 60 and a new private road and include a conservation block, a block for a pump station, and three open space blocks to house green space and a stormwater management facility.
The report presented to council states the proposed residential project, led by Halmont Properties Corporation, features a maximum of 110 units, planned as a blend of bungalow and two-story townhomes.
Under the current application, the development would be situated across three designated recreational resort residential blocks. In addition to the housing, the report says the plan includes two blocks for resort commercial use.
According to Clark, the property known as the Grandview Backlands has an approximate area of 16.07 hectares with approximately 475 metres of frontage on Highway 60, 545 metres of frontage on Grandview Drive, 100 metres of frontage on Cookson Bay Crescent, and 375 metres on Ferry Lake in Cookson.
After a lengthy deliberation, the council unanimously approved the project, the 110-unit development.
“I said it before during the public meeting, I think this is a great development,” said Mayor Nancy Alcock.
According to project officials, construction is slated to begin later this year.
