Huntsville High School Hoya Robotics team to hold bottle drive January 3

The Huntsville High School Hoya Robotics team are holding a bottle drive at the Huntsville FreshCo on January 3 to raise funds for their upcoming competition season.

The team will be designing and building their new robot in January and February in preparation for their competitions in March and April. The funds raised will support the costs of building this season’s robot, which includes equipment such as gears, wheels, motors, circuit boards, and cameras.

“Fundraising is vital for our team. Fund opportunities like this bottle drive allow us to purchase technology and parts required for us to design, prototype and build a robot each year,” says Kamran Hadaway, Robotics Student and Safety Subteam Co-Lead.

The team finished third in their division in the 2025 World Championships, and they hope their fundraising efforts will help them reach similar heights this year. Kirsten Otis, HHS math teacher and robotics mentor, says that having current equipment allows the team’s achievements at competitions to match the skills the students have developed.

“Our students have incredible dedication,” Otis says. “We have been able to foster a team that is competitive against some of the best teams in Ontario, and the world.”

Anyone interested in donating is encouraged to bring their empty cans and bottles to the Huntsville FreshCo parking lot, 19 Hanes Rd, on January 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
