Cedar Canoe Books ice rink in Huntsville scheduled to open Dec. 13

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce is gearing up to open the Cedar Canoe Books ice rink at River Mill Park on Dec. 13.

Halley Clover, the Chamber’s Executive Director, said this is their third year installing the ice rink at the park.

“It’s just a great way to have outdoor activities in the winter months,” she said, adding that this year they have a light canopy over the whole park.

This year, the rink is partially funded by the business community and the Huntsville Municipal Accommodation Tax Association.

“The funding from Explore Huntsville and the HMATA Group, they invested in two chillers,” she said. “So now it’s a refrigerated rink, which guarantees us skating from December all the way to March break.”

The Chamber, along with several partners, including the Huntsville Festival of the Arts and Downtown BIA, are working together to organize Huntsville Snowfest at the rink in January.

Some of the events scheduled for January as part of the Huntsville Snowfest include DJ Glow Nights on Fridays, Silver Screen on Saturdays and Caesar Sundays.

She adds skating is free, and no RSVP is needed.

“Bring your skates down to River Mill, and it’s open twenty-four seven. So, you can go whenever you’d like. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, we do have staff down there with a fire going, so you can warm up,” said Clover.
