OPP launch Festive RIDE campaign

With the holidays just around the corner, the Huntsville OPP is reminding motorists to ‘Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere’.

The OPP’s Festive R.I.D.E. campaign is officially underway. Police said the campaign, launched Nov. 20, will run until New Year’s Day across Muskoka and the rest of Ontario.

Officers said the campaign is to help keep the roads safe and to remind drivers that impaired driving, whether by alcohol or drugs, is never worth the risk and can cause unnecessary loss of life.

“No amount of impaired driving is safe or acceptable. We want every person in our communities to have a safe and happy holiday season,” said police.

An increased OPP presence is expected as officers will be conducting frequent RIDE checks.

Last year, OPP officers charged 743 drivers and issued 155 immediate roadside warning suspensions over the course of the 42-day Festive R.I.D.E. campaign.
