The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department’s 37th annual Project Porchlight food drive, supporting the Salvation Army, will take place on Dec. 3.
Officials say starting at 6:00 p.m., firefighters, along with OPP, EMS, public works staff, and members of the Motorcyclists of Muskoka, will be driving through neighborhoods to collect non-perishable food donations.
Residents who wish to participate are asked to turn on porch lights and leave donations at the end of their driveway or on your porch so first responders and volunteers can pick them up.
Project Porchlight has been a tradition for nearly 40 years, helping the Salvation Army provide food to families and individuals throughout the year.
“We’re proud to keep this tradition alive for its 37th year,” says Steve Markham, Fire Prevention Officer. “These are still challenging times for many in our community, and even a few donated items can make a big difference and brighten the holidays for someone in need.”
According to officials, if you will not be home or would like to donate at another time, donations can also be dropped off at these locations during the day:
- Huntsville Fire Hall Station #1 (1 Payne Dr.)
- Salvation Army, Huntsville (4 Mary St. E.)
- Port Sydney Fire Hall (387 South Mary Lake Rd.)
- Lake of Bays Fire Halls (1007 Limberlost Rd., 1230 Fox Point Rd., and 12 University St., Baysville)
The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is thanking everyone who continues to support Project Porchlight.
