The District of Muskoka is providing $200,000 to support the development of the Gravenhurst Health Hub.
According to a report presented to council on Aug. 21, the funding will be used to help renovate approximately 12,000 square feet of vacant space on the second floor of the Cottage Country Family Health Team’s (CCFHT) building, creating new space for primary care providers, after-hours services, an expanded laboratory, and a visiting specialist program.
The grant, approved by the Health Services Committee on July 24 and by council on Aug. 21, will support an initiative that’s projected to help connect 6,000 unattached patients in the community to primary care.
“There are more than 6,000 residents in Gravenhurst who are not attached to a primary care physician and are often required to travel throughout Muskoka, and well beyond, to access care,” states the report.
The funding will come from the Regional Health Services Reserve Fund, which had a balance of $387,062 as of Dec. 31, 2024.
“The reserve can therefore accommodate the $200,000 requested…while retaining a favourable balance of approximately $187,062,” reads the report.
As a result, council unanimously approved the funding for the CCFHT to support the Gravenhurst Health Hub project.
