Huntsville to host Nuit Blanche North on July 19

The Town of Huntsville will be hosting the 13th annual Nuit Blanche North on July 19 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Dan Watson, the Festival’s Executive Director, said the event is a free night art extravaganza where artists take over the streets to present various performances, exhibits and interactive activities for the whole family to enjoy.

“It’s a night for people to come out and create and be inspired by local artists and to create amazing things themselves and have a great time,” said Watson.

According to officials, the event will feature 33 different activities and performances by over 100 local and visiting artists.

This year’s theme is “Let yourself glow.” Watson said with the theme, they are inviting artists and audiences alike to shine a little light on themselves, on their community, and on the beauty of the place they call home.

“There are all kinds of glow in the dark,” he said.  “We’ve got a glow in the dark fun zone as well that’s happening in River Mill Park.”

There will be a fire show with buskers spinning hula hoops of fire and blowing fire, as well as many more activities.

“There’s a DJ that’s going to be spinning in front of the Algonquin Theatre on the balcony,” said Watson. “So, you can come down and there’s a dance floor there with some 10-foot-tall LED robots that will be hanging out.”

Officials said there will be a variety of local food vendors at River Mill Park, including Gangnam Korea and Canvas Brewery, as well as spots like The Nutty Chocolatier, Little Place, Mill on Main, and Main Street Local Kitchen.

As a result, the town will close Main Street East from Brunel Road to Centre Street from 4 p.m. on July 19 to 2 a.m. on July 20, and the River Mill Park Parking Lot from 6 a.m. on July 19 to 4 a.m. on July 20.

Town officials say barricades will block vehicular traffic from the event area, and detour signage will be posted.
