Muskoka 100 People Who Care will host its second annual fundraiser dinner on June 18 at the Seasons Restaurant at Patterson Kaye Resort.
Alex MacDonald, a co-founder of the organization, says the purpose is to bring together 100 or more people who contribute $100 each to support a local charity.
“We bring in three charities that are local to our community, and we have them come in and speak,” said MacDonald.
This year’s three charities participating in the event are Muskoka Victim Services, YWCA Muskoka, and Mind-aid Muskoka.
“They’re each given the opportunity to go through what they do for the community, how their organization works,” she said.
Following that, attendees vote for the charity of their choice. Funds raised during the event will be donated to the charity with the most votes.
Last year, the organization hosted two events, the first in June raised over $10,000 for Hospice Muskoka’s Andy’s House, while the second in August raised over $7,200 for Food4Kids.
“We just thought these events would be a really nice way to bring everybody together. We try to make them fun. We also try to make them really beneficial to the community. We feel it’s so important and it has such a big impact,” she said.
Gillian Sifft, another co-founder, said their goal for this event is to raise over $10,000.
“Anything helps, and every charity is thrilled to just have any support,” she said.
