FedNor funding is helping create 14 paid internships across the north, including locally.
Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for FedNor, announced more than $735,000 for the youth employment opportunities.
Several groups in Muskoka are receiving funding.
They include the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce for an Events & Business Development Youth Intern.
Money is also going to the Town of Bracebridge to bring in a youth intern to support recognition events and activities surrounding its 150th anniversary. The Bracebridge Chamber of Commerce receives funding to hire a youth intern as a Communication and Events Specialist.
A youth intern will be hired by Muskoka Arts and Craft Inc. to support and promote arts and culture tourism in the region, with the Muskoka Steamships Association receiving funding to bring an intern on board to support its day-to-day operations.
“Young people are crucial to Northern Ontario’s future,” says Hajdu. “These internships will help youth gain valuable experience and develop the confidence they need to succeed in the workforce. By connecting talented young people with local employers, we are helping them build rewarding careers close to home while contributing to the future of their communities.”
The money comes from FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program.
