The Ontario government is investing an additional $425,000 in Daiken North America’s Huntsville facility to support production of a new laminated wood panel, supporting jobs and strengthening the province’s forest sector.
Officials said the funding, provided through the Forest Biomass Program, will help bring the company’s first-of-its-kind wood panel product to market more quickly while increasing productivity at the Huntsville manufacturing plant.
According to officials, production at the upgraded facility is expected to begin this summer and will create 10 new full-time jobs while protecting 128 existing positions.
The announcement is part of the province’s broader strategy to support Ontario’s forest industry as it continues to navigate the impacts of U.S. tariffs and broader economic uncertainty. The latest investment follows the government’s recent commitment of $10 million toward Daiken’s $70 million project to modernize its laminated board production line.
Huntsville Mayor Nancy Alcock welcomed the announcement and emphasized the positive impact it will have on the region.
“The Ontario government’s continued investment in Daiken’s Huntsville production facility demonstrates its commitment to supporting our local economy, advancing innovation in the forest sector, and creating good-paying jobs,” Alcock said. “Today’s announcement highlights how strong public and private sector partnerships can bolster local manufacturing, drive economic growth, and enhance Ontario’s competitiveness in global markets.”
According to officials, the laminated wood panel product is designed for use in flooring, recreational vehicles, and modular housing and offers a higher-performance, lower-cost alternative to imported materials. They will be sold in both domestic and international markets, helping establish Ontario as a leader in sustainably sourced forest products.
