Fire departments across Muskoka are reminding residents with cottages on seasonal roads to keep driveways and roadways clear in case of an emergency.
According to fire officials, overgrown trees and brush can block access for emergency vehicles, causing delays when every second counts, as fire trucks are much larger than regular cars.
Crews also said low-hanging branches can damage fire apparatus and make it difficult for firefighters to reach you.
As a result, fire officials are encouraging residents to cut back trees and brush along seasonal roads to ensure there is enough width and height for emergency vehicles to pass safely.
Additionally, crews said residents should ensure there is enough room for a fire truck to turn around if needed, as fire trucks cannot safely back long distances down narrow roads, especially during emergencies.
