Muskoka 100 People Who Care donated $9,420 to Enliven Cancer Care during their first community gathering event of the year.
The group of local philanthropists organizes two community gathering events each year to raise funds for local charities.
Members who attend the event commit to contributing $100, helping the organization raise funds that are later donated to the charity receiving the most votes.
During the event, each charity presents its work in the community. Attendees then vote for the charity they would like to receive the funds.
Officials said that during their latest event, held on June 15 in Port Carling, the participating local charities were YWCA Muskoka, Carter’s Forever Rescue and Sanctuary, and Enliven Cancer Care, which was the winning charity.
According to officials, the donation will help the organization continue supporting individuals and families navigating their cancer journeys.
Additionally, this year, officials said Marion Mochrie, a founding member of Muskoka 100 People Who Care, stepped forward through The Mochrie Family Foundation to match donations for the two remaining charities.
As a result, officials said Carter’s Forever Rescue and Sanctuary and YWCA Muskoka will also receive “substantial donations” to continue their important work throughout our community.
So far, the group has donated more than $41,500 to local charities over the years.
