The former Bracebridge Mayor Scott Northmore passed away peacefully on June 2 at the age of 91.
According to Town of Bracebridge officials, Northmore served the community for 18 years as a member of Bracebridge Council from 1989 to 2006, including three terms as Mayor.
During his time on Council, officials said Northmore championed major community-building initiatives, including the construction of the Bracebridge Sportsplex and the early planning and development of what is now Peake Fields.
Additionally, he oversaw the continued enhancement of the local Bay Park, helping establish it as the community’s premiere waterfront gathering space and a destination for residents and visitors alike.
“Scott was a people’s Mayor. He cared deeply about this community and always had time for a conversation. He led with kindness, humility and a genuine commitment to making Bracebridge a better place. His steady leadership, optimism and belief in the potential of Bracebridge helped shape the town we know today,” said Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney. “On behalf of Council, staff and the entire community, we extend our sincere condolences to Scott’s family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.”
Officials said Northmore was also a strong advocate for economic development and community resilience. Throughout his tenure, he helped Council establish the Economic Development branch and advance the growth of key commercial areas in the town. He also helped stabilize the local economy, support workers, and strengthen the town’s reputation as a vibrant place to live, work, play, and visit.
Flags at municipal facilities have been lowered to half-mast in recognition of Mayor Northmore’s service and contributions to the community.
