Airbnb is investing more than $550,000 in soccer infrastructure and programming across four Ontario communities, including Bracebridge and Gravenhurst.
The funding is part of their FIFA World Cup 2026 Impact Program, which supports initiatives designed to create lasting benefits for local communities both during and after the tournament in host cities and surrounding regions.
Officials said Bracebridge received $150,000 to replace the aging lighting system at Randy Gostick Park with a modern, energy-efficient LED system. The upgrade is expected to reduce energy use by more than half and provide benefits for up to 25 years.
“Randy Gostick Park is an important recreational hub where athletes of all ages come together to play, compete and connect,” said Town of Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney. “Upgrading the field lighting with modern LED technology will improve the experience for users, reduce energy consumption and support the Town’s long-term climate and infrastructure goals.”
Officials said Gravenhurst received $122,000 to support field upgrades at Gull Lake Rotary Park, as well as equipment and lighting improvements. The funding will also support soccer programming for children aged two to 14, including subsidized participation for families who may otherwise be unable to enroll.
“On behalf of council and staff, I want to say how grateful we are for this generous contribution to our community,” said Town of Gravenhurst Mayor Heidi Lorenz. “This will make a difference in so many lives in terms of skill development and healthy living. This is definitely a win for Gravenhurst.”
According to officials, over 380,000 visitors are projected to stay in Airbnb accommodations during the FIFA World Cup 2026, contributing an estimated $4.9 billion to the economies of host cities and surrounding regions.
The other two communities receiving funding are Prince Edward County and Niagara-on-the-Lake.
