Jo Morphy enters Gravenhurst mayoral race

Jo Morphy has officially announced her candidacy to become the next mayor of Gravenhurst.

Morphy, who currently serves as a councilor in Gravenhurst, has launched her campaign titled “A Decisive Vision for Gravenhurst’s Future.”

“Gravenhurst is at a turning point,” said Morphy. “We have incredible potential, but potential alone won’t restore our downtown or protect our lakes. We need a Mayor who moves projects from ‘idea’ to ‘implementation’ without bureaucratic delay. I am running to ensure Town Hall works for the residents—delivering the services we need and the growth we deserve.”

According to Morphy, she brings a proven record of leadership, with eight years of council experience and a senior management career that includes serving as President of the Muskoka Bay Property Owners Association. She also said her background in IT and retail management provides a private-sector lens focused on managing the town’s budget with discipline and transparency.

Morphy said her plan for the town’s future focuses on economic and downtown revitalization, including a “Business Back to Main Street” program and efforts to leverage the return of the Ontario Northland train to increase visitor spending and encourage investment in the Wharf and downtown core.

Her plan also emphasizes community infrastructure and recreation, including prioritizing a second ice pad to meet growing demand for hockey, figure skating, and family activities, as well as streamlining Town Hall processes to help accelerate local housing development.

“Whether it’s adding ice time for our families or ensuring our Wharf is a world-class destination, the goal is the same: results,” she said.

In addition, she said she is committed to responsible waterfront stewardship through proactive policies aimed at protecting lake water quality and shorelines, while balancing environmental protection with sustainable development.

“I am ready to get to work, but that’s going to involve all of Gravenhurst,” said Morphy.

As of May 29, there are two mayoral candidates registered in Gravenhurst.

Candidates have until Friday, August 21, to file their nominations.

The municipal election is Oct. 26.
