Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney has officially announced his intentions to seek re-election this October.
Maloney has served on council for more than 15 years, representing the residents of the Macaulay Ward from 2010 to 2018, and serving as a district councillor from 2018 to 2022. He was unanimously appointed mayor in July 2022 before being elected mayor the following October.
“Bracebridge is a community with tremendous momentum,” said Maloney. “Over the past term, we have worked together to strengthen our local economy, invest in community well-being, protect our environment, and build relationships that position Bracebridge for long-term success. I am proud of what we have accomplished and excited about what lies ahead.”
Maloney said since he was first elected Mayor, the town has continued to support initiatives that enhance quality of life for residents of all ages through investments in parks, recreation, waterfront access, trails, and community infrastructure, while also supporting partnerships that strengthen healthcare services and community wellness throughout the region.
He said he has also worked closely with local businesses, community organizations, regional partners, healthcare leaders, tourism stakeholders, and residents to advance shared priorities and support long-term success for the community.
“Bracebridge continues to be recognized as one of Ontario’s most desirable communities to live, work, visit, and invest in,” said Maloney. “We have created momentum that benefits residents, entrepreneurs, workers, and families alike.”
Maloney said through careful budgeting and long-term planning, the town has worked to ensure taxpayers receive value while preparing Bracebridge for future growth and economic challenges.
Looking ahead, Maloney said his campaign will focus on managing growth responsibly, upgrading local infrastructure, and supporting attainable housing solutions. He also said he will continue working to strengthen healthcare advocacy, boost economic opportunities, and protect Bracebridge’s natural environment and unique character.
“I believe in Bracebridge,” Maloney said. “This community succeeds when we work together with optimism, respect, and a shared vision for the future. I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Bracebridge and earning their support once again.”
As of May 20, Maloney is the only Mayoral candidate registered in Bracebridge.
Candidates have until Friday, August 21, to file their nomination. The municipal election is Oct. 26.
