Huntsville Robotics team shines at provincial championships

The Huntsville High School Hoya Robotics team is celebrating a strong performance on the provincial stage.

The team travelled to Niagara Falls from April 16 to 19 to take part in the FIRST Robotics Ontario District Championship, which brought together the top 100 robotics teams in Ontario.

Competing on the Technology Field, the team placed 11th following qualification matches. In the playoff rounds, they went on to captain the eighth alliance, delivering a successful performance and advancing to the quarterfinals. Along the way, they secured victories over the top-ranked alliance in match one and the fourth-ranked alliance in match nine.

The championship caps off a successful season for the team. Overall, they ranked 30th in Ontario out of 119 teams, 34th in Canada out of 185 teams, and 478th in the world out of 3,724 teams.

The team is now looking ahead to a busy schedule of fundraising and outreach events, as their success relies on strong community support.

Their next fundraiser is a screening of Wall-E at the Algonquin Theatre on May 9 at 2 p.m. Team members will be in attendance with their robot, and additional donations can be made at the door.

The team and their robot will also be attending the TriMuskokan on June 21, and the Muskoka Ironman race on July 5.
