The District of Muskoka is seeking public feedback to help update and align its Official Plan with new provincial rules, local priorities, and current needs.
According to officials, the Official Plan guides decisions on where new homes and businesses can be located, how lakes, rivers, and natural areas are protected, and how the region plans for the future.
“The Official Plan helps shape how Muskoka grows and changes over time. It is important that this work reflects the voices of the people who live, work, and invest here,” said Jeff Lehman, Chair of the District of Muskoka. “Council encourages residents to review the draft updates and share feedback on the future of the community.”
The District is hosting two open houses and a public meeting to gather feedback on housing, climate and weather changes, resorts, jobs and the economy, protecting waterbody health, and the qualities that make Muskoka unique.
Open houses will be held on May 12 virtually from 12 to 1:30 p.m. and in-person from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Terry Fox Auditorium at the Gravenhurst Centennial Centre. Both open houses will give the public an opportunity to watch a presentation, share comments, and ask questions.
The public meeting will take place on May 21 at 9 a.m. in council chambers at the District of Muskoka Administration Building. Residents can attend the meeting virtually or provide written or verbal comments on the proposed updates ahead of time.
