The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is bringing back its annual Move to Give campaign for a 12th year, continuing its mission to support healthy communities across the region.
The annual week-long initiative features a series of fundraising events aimed at supporting a wide range of local programs and services, including employment and learning services, childcare, youth camps, language programs, and health and fitness opportunities.
In Huntsville, the campaign will feature a cycle-a-thon tomorrow (April 14) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Huntsville YMCA Employment Office. Staff from the location’s employment and learning services teams will ride two stationary bikes in a continuous relay throughout the duration of the event.
Employment specialist Jolene Theriault is encouraging residents to stop by, show their support, and contribute to the cause.
“You can come watch our staff working up a sweat for a good cause,” she said.
Funds raised locally will go toward the YMCA’s Learning Services department, helping to support English as a Second Language classes. Theriault said these programs play a vital role in helping newcomers integrate into the community.
The event is expected to offer a lively atmosphere, complete with music, snacks, balloons, and merchandise.
“It’s super fun, the energy is high, the excitement is there, everyone has a blast – and we’re getting exercise at the same time,” she said.
The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka’s collective fundraising goal is $100,000. Organizers say these funds will have a drastic impact on the one in five people they serve throughout the district.
“It’s meant to break down financial barriers and ensure that local families and individuals of all ages can access our transformative programs,” Theriault said.
