The Ontario government is providing up to $2.7 million to five south Muskoka municipalities to help cover cleanup and emergency response costs from the March 2025 winter storm.
Funding allocations include $348,000 for the Town of Bracebridge, $243,000 for the Town of Gravenhurst, $15,000 for the Township of Georgian Bay, $847,000 for the Township of Muskoka Lakes, and $1.24 million for the District of Muskoka.
“This assistance exemplifies our government’s commitment to protecting Ontario,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “By providing this funding, the communities hit hardest by last year’s ice storm will be able to have the majority of emergency response and clean-up costs covered without having to rely on ratepayers.”
Officials said the funding is part of Ontario’s $90 million Municipal Ice Storm Assistance program and will support recovery from widespread storm damage, caused by fallen trees and downed hydro lines, that left nearly 400,000 homes and businesses without power across central and Eastern Ontario.
The Municipal Ice Storm Assistance program, along with the Business Ice Storm Assistance program, was launched in June 2025 by the government to help communities impacted by the storm.
“Our government will always protect Ontario, especially in times of need,” said Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “The relief being announced today will safeguard local jobs and help Parry Sound–Muskoka rebuild – stronger than ever.”
