The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is warning of potential flooding in the region.
A flood watch has been issued for the majority of the province, including the Muskoka region, due to significant rain and warmer temperatures.
A water safety bulletin for watersheds in the Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound regions was also issued on March 6. It will be in effect until March 13.
The forecast is calling for 15-20 mm of rain on March 6, and an additional 125 mm of rain on March 7. The temperature is also expected to reach 12 degrees, and lead to a significant melt.
Officials say water levels in most lakes are at or below target for this time of year, but are expected to increase with forecasted precipitation and runoff from melting snow. Ministry officials say low-lying areas may be impacted to various degrees and residents and visitors should be cautious around waterbodies and maintain close supervision of children and pets.
The ministry also advises “extreme caution” around forest access roads, as washouts can easily make them impassible.
Ministry officials will be closely monitoring the developing watershed conditions.
