Town of Huntsville issues snow removal reminders

With a significant snowfall expected to hit Huntsville on January 22, the Town is reminding residents of steps they can take to support snow removal operations and help keep roads safe and accessible.

Contracted snow removal crews will be actively clearing urban roads throughout Jan. 22 and 23. To ensure this work can be carried out efficiently, residents are asked not to park vehicles overnight on Town and District roads, as well as Town-owned lots.

To further assist plow operators, garbage and recycling containers should be kept off the shoulder of the road during this week’s collection. Items placed too close to roadways can interfere with snow clearing equipment and reduce efficiency.

The Town reminds residents that shoveling, blowing, or plowing snow onto public roadways is illegal and can create hazardous driving conditions. Instead, homeowners are encouraged to clear a small section of the snowbank at the edge of their driveway. Doing so can help reduce the amount of snow pushed back into driveways by passing plows.

Residents are responsible for maintaining snowbanks on their own property. Snowbanks at driveway entrances should be kept low enough to ensure clear visibility for both drivers and pedestrians entering or exiting the roadway.
