Moose FM has once again partnered with the Salvation Army for a Christmas radiothon.
99.5 Moose FM in Bracebridge and 105.5 Moose FM Huntsville are hosting their annual fundraisers on Dec. 4 and 5.
In Bracebridge, the Radiothon runs from Thursday (Dec. 4) to Friday (Dec. 5) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in support of the South Muskoka Salvation Army.
“It really funds everything we do for the rest of the year,” said Lieutenant Brandon Keeping of Salvation Army South Muskoka Ministries. “Between us and Huntsville, we’re one of the only Salvation Army organizations in Canada that get this kind of coverage. So, it is a big deal for us to be able to have that much effective fundraising in only two days.”
Keeping said the funds raised will support their Christmas assistance programs and help fund food bank operations year-round.
Last year, the two-day radiothon raised $131,322.
In Huntsville, the Radiothon runs on Friday (Dec. 5) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in support of the Salvation Army Huntsville.
“The purpose of this event will be to assist us with Christmas,” said Major Dwayne LeDrew, officer with the Salvation Army Huntsville. “We want to ensure that people who get food from us on a monthly basis are getting a support, a nutrition, a well-balanced meal.”
LeDrew also said the funds will be used to purchase toys for children over the holidays and to maintain food bank stock throughout the year.
He said this year they expect to surpass last year’s total of $32,382.
