Community fundraiser launched to help Gravenhurst mother injured in collision

A community fundraiser has been launched to support Lacey, a wife and mother of three from Gravenhurst who was involved in a collision on Nov. 11.

Julie Cochrane, organizer of the GoFundMe, said after dropping her husband off at work, Lacey and their three young children were involved in a head-on collision.

“Thanks to their car seats, the children survived physically unharmed, but they witnessed unimaginable trauma as their mom fought for her life,” said Cochrane.

She said Lacey is currently at St. Michael’s Hospital with severe injuries, including a broken arm, a broken leg, back injuries requiring surgery, and internal damage.

Cochrane said once stable, she will be transferred to Bracebridge to be closer to her family and begin her long and difficult road of physiotherapy and recovery.

According to Cochrane, for the next six months, her husband must take a leave of absence from work to stay with Lacey and support the children, while the children’s grandmother, Brenda, will also need to take six months away from her job to care for the three grandchildren.

She said the family is facing “overwhelming financial strain” as they are without employee benefits, and their leased vehicle was destroyed in the accident.

“It is difficult to reach out in this manner, especially so close to Christmas, a time that should be filled with joy, warmth, and family moments. Instead, this young family is facing uncertainty, separation, and emotional pain,” said Cochrane.

As of Dec. 2, $2,915 had been raised in support of the family.
