The District Municipality of Muskoka has taken a major step toward reopening Bracebridge’s historic Silver Bridge by selecting Clearwater Construction Inc. to carry out its rehabilitation.
James Steele, Commissioner of Engineering and Public Works, said the collaboration between District staff and industry partners allowed the project to progress quickly.
“I’m incredibly pleased that collaboration between District staff and our industry partners has allowed us to make such significant progress in such a short time,” said Steele. “Everyone involved clearly understood how important this infrastructure is to the community and worked quickly to move the project forward.”
According to district officials, construction staging and rehabilitation design are expected to begin immediately, with initial on-site work expected before the end of the year.
They say work could continue through the winter, depending on weather conditions.
“The District selecting Clearwater Construction marks a major step toward returning the Silver Bridge to service,” said Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney. “The bridge is an important transportation link for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. We’re grateful to the community for their continued patience and understanding as this critical work moves forward safely.”
According to officials, the Silver Bridge will remain closed to all traffic during the rehabilitation, and detour routes are in place along with updates to navigation apps through Municipal 511 to help drivers plan alternate routes.
They say there is a chance that the bridge could reopen in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The District said they will continue to provide updates, including construction milestones and safety advisories, as the project progresses.
