Moose FM’s two Muskoka stations raised $265,922 for our region’s two hospital foundations during Friday’s Thanksgiving Radiothons.
After 12 hours on-air, Huntsville’s 105.5 Moose FM raised $157,422 for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation (HHF), while Bracebridge’s 99.5 Moose FM raised $108,500 for the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation (SMHF).
Katherine Craine, Chief Executive Officer at HHF, was in the Huntsville studio all day along with other foundation representatives. She said the event truly showcased the town’s spirit and the incredible, generous people, calling it enough to “make you want to cry.”
“We get to buy a CT scanner in the next couple of years, and we’re pretty close to getting there. That’s probably close to $2 million of a purchase,” said Craine.
Craine said the money raised will also support other pieces of equipment that they are purchasing for the Diagnostics Department.
Leah Walker, Executive Director of the SMHF, was also in the Bracebridge studio all day. According to her, the effort means a lot because it equips healthcare providers with the tools they need to care for local families.
“The funds will be used to support emergency care at the South Muskoka Hospital,” said Walker.
Walker said the funds raised will also benefit other departments that support emergency care, such as diagnostic imaging and the laboratory.
Donations are still being accepted on the HHF and SMHF websites.
