A 47-year-old from Huntsville is facing theft and weapons-related charges following incidents in Port Sydney and Huntsville in September.
According to police, the man was involved in a shoplifting incident at the Freshmart in Port Sydney, where alcohol and other food items were taken.
Police said on Sept. 30, the man was identified and arrested. He was later released with a pending court date in Bracebridge.
Later that same day, at about 2 p.m., police said officers responded to a report of a man brandishing a weapon thought to be a knife in the area of West Road in Huntsville.
After an investigation, police said the suspect was the same man arrested and released earlier in the day.
Officers said even though the suspects’ behaviour was aggressive, no members of the public were injured.
As a result, the 47-year-old from Huntsville was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and theft under $5,000.
He is slated to appear in court on Oct. 1.
