Over the span of 11 days, from August 22 to September 1, Bracebridge OPP officers issued five impaired driving charges.
Inspector Wade Beebe said they have noticed an increase in impaired drivers this year compared to last.
According to Beebe, this year local OPP have been even more proactive with RIDE check and patrols. He says one thing that has also helped a lot in catching impaired drivers is calls from concerned citizens reporting suspicious vehicles.
Beebe said the penalties that come with an impaired driving charge include: an immediate 90-day license suspension, a 7-day vehicle impoundment, and a $550 ticket, along with lawyer’s fees, and increased insurance costs.
He said the OPP are grateful to the public for their support in calling in impaired drivers, as that has been very helpful in keeping Muskoka Roads safe. They ask that people continue to report any suspicious driving behavior by contacting 9-1-1.
