On July 18, I had the honor of being taken on a tour of Bracebridge with Mayor Rick Maloney.
I moved to Bracebridge from Toronto in February, and I haven’t gotten the opportunity to explore as much as I’d like too. Rick was kind enough to offer to be my tour guide for the day.
We started out at the Storybook Trail at Woodchester where Rick showed me the new story that they unveiled on July 15, written by local author Sue Kelly and illustrated by Ronnie Szostak as a part of the 150 Legacy Project. We also get to see the “new resident” of the park, which is a bear sculpture carved by Precision Carvings in honor of Bracebridge’s 150-year anniversary. Rick says the town is still looking to the public to come up with a name for the bear.
Next, we headed over to Memorial Park right in the Downtown core where Rick shared the new plan for the bandshell and how they plan to make it accessible to all.
Then we went over to the 150 Forest which is also part of the 150 Legacy Project. The forest has “reasonably mature” trees planted, all of which are native species to Muskoka and there are even some fruit trees.
To wrap up the wonderful tour of the town, we headed over to Bass Rock where we got to meet a lovely family who were visiting from Vaughn and stumbled upon this great location.
