Local communities get tourism boost from province

Ontario is helping communities in northeastern Ontario boost tourism, attract investment and create jobs. Projects in northeastern Ontario that have recently been approved for funding from the Rural Economic Development program include two for Almaguin.

The Village of Burk’s Falls will receive close to $29,000 to rehabilitate the Towne Cinema, including replacement of obsolete equipment which will ensure the continuation of seasonal jobs and have the potential to create more long-term employment through additional programming. The Municipality of Powassan will receive up to $5,150 to host an economic development, networking and business investment fair.

Supporting rural communities is a four-part plan for Ontario to strengthen communities by investing in people’s talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
