OPP advises against loud noise on snowmobiles

MUSKOKA, ON-The OPP is warning snowmobilers  about excessive noise.

The Central Region OPP posted a video on Twitter on December 4th saying that modified exhausts or excessive sound on snowmobile trails lead to noise complaints which could turn into fines.

Provincial Constable Ryan Lehr of the Central Region Safe Team said that removing the muffler or modifying any component of a snowmobile is an offence under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act and could result in a fine of $100.00.

The snowmobile trails lead riders through residential areas which can be commonly heard at night when people are sleeping.

Lehr suggests that snowmobilers stick with manufacturer approved parts and to not seek extra modification.

“Over my 17 years working I can tell you that we get complaints every year about the noise coming from snowmobiles,” said Lehr.

Lehr wants to remind people that when driving through residential areas to slow down so that the noise does to bother others.
