Local supports Muskoka by delivering food

MUSKOKA, ON-The local Meals on Wheels (MOW) organizer has been bringing food to those who are unable to do so themselves for over 30 years.

In an interview with the MyMuskokaNow.com newsroom, Organizer of MOW in the Bala and surrounding area, Linda Jackson Hutton said she brought the program to Bala in the 1980’s after she found a local senior woman who was needing help to stay at home. She applied for the Meals on Wheels grant and was able to start the program here with her friend and has kept it going for 34 years.

“We drove around to all the other communities to see how they did Meals on Wheels and then created a working model for us,” said Hutton.

As the business began to gain more traction, churches and community groups supplied volunteer drivers and according to Hutton, they drive all over cottage country to deliver freshly made meals as each dish is supplied by a family restaurant. “We make sure each meal is fresh and use reusable dishes so we don’t waste any of our resources,” said Hutton.
