Playground at local beach to become more accessible

BRACEBRIDGE, ON –  The town is looking to expand a local hot spot and make it more inclusive for everyone.

It is the latest project as Bracebridge makes Kirby’s Beach more accessible to those with mobility issues.

“Play spaces provide a gathering place for family, friends and neighbours,” Councillor Archie Buie, Chair of the Accessibility Advisory Committee said. “They also offer children with diverse abilities the opportunity to play alongside each other.”

Most recently, hard pathways were installed to picnic tables, garbage cans and to the beach itself to make access easier for wheelchairs. The washrooms were also upgraded to become fully accessible.

Bracebridge’s Accessibility Advisory Committee is holding an open house at the Sportsplex’s conference room next Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Those who go to the open house will be able to fill out a survey and help guide the design for the playground’s expansion.

Anyone who can’t make it still has a chance to have their voice heard. The survey is also available online.
