Former Minden resident charged in murder of two BC girls

There may be a Minden connection to the suspect who’s been arrested for the murder of two BC schoolgirls. Convicted rapist Garry Taylor Handlen has been charged with the murders of eleven year old Kathryn-Mary Herbert in 1975, and 12 year old Monica Jack in the spring of 1978. According to the National Post, Handlen was living in Minden back in 2004 when he led police on a “low-speed” chase while driving in the middle of a country road at 20 km per hour. The story says he had refused to pull over for police for 30 minutes. Handlen, who was then 56, was charged with flight from police, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving. Local OPP say there’s a chance Handlen could have been living in Minden even more recently, but they can’t confirm when. Handlen was arrested in the murders Monday in British Columbia.
